Sovereignty in the Room: Why Networking Begins Within
There is a strange energy in the air right now.
Brilliant, driven women are building businesses, leading teams, raising families and creating meaningful impact and yet beneath the competence I sense something else.
Overstimulation.
Disorientation.
A subtle hum of uncertainty.
The noise is relentless. News cycles spin. Public figures fall from grace. Institutions wobble. Opinions are loud and polarised.
And when the world feels unstable, it is tempting to look outside ourselves for certainty.
A guru.
A thought leader.
A bestselling author.
Someone who appears to “know.”
I’ve done it.
For years I studied certain teachers. I read their books. Listened to their recordings. Quoted their insights.
And recently, I made a very clear decision.
I rejected the work of a teacher I had followed for years. His behaviour no longer aligned with my values. And I realised I do not outsource my authority to anyone whose integrity I question. Wisdom without alignment is not wisdom for me. I choose to source my guidance from within.
Deepak Chopra’s books and CDs are now in my bin.
Not dramatically. Not performatively. Decisively.
Because sovereignty requires congruence. And this has everything to do with networking.
Networking Amplifies Who You Are
Networking is not neutral. It amplifies your state.
If you enter a room seeking validation, you will feel exposed. If you enter a room anchored in your authority, you will feel expansive.
If you are borrowing wisdom, you will sound rehearsed. If you are integrated in your truth, you will sound compelling.
In relationship-led networking, people are not just responding to your words. They are responding to your nervous system. Your congruence. Your self-trust.
This is why some women can say very little and yet feel powerful.
And why others can speak for 60 seconds and still feel unseen.
Sovereignty is magnetic. And wealth flows toward clarity.
The Guru Trap in Business
There is a subtle trap many capable women fall into.
We invest in a coach.
Join a programme.
Follow a leader.
Adopt a framework.
All useful. All valuable.
Until something feels off.
And instead of listening to our internal signal, we override it.
We tolerate discomfort.
We justify behaviour.
We separate “the wisdom” from “the person.”
But when integrity fractures, so does energetic trust.
And if you are building a business rooted in relationships, trust is everything.
Including the trust you have in yourself.
Completion Is Power
If you feel disappointed by someone you once admired or entangled with a voice that no longer feels aligned there is powerful work to do.
Set aside 20 quiet minutes and journal:
-
Who have I worked with (or followed) that I feel has let me down?
-
What did I genuinely learn?
-
What am I over?
-
What was I tolerating?
-
What would I love to create now?
This is not about blame.
It is about reclamation.
Extract the lesson. Release the attachment. Reclaim your authority.
Because you cannot network powerfully while doubting your own discernment.
Sovereignty Creates NetWORTH
In The Athena Network, we speak about being NetWORTHY.
That is not about status. It is about substance.
A woman who is NetWORTHY:
-
Knows her values.
-
Trusts her instincts.
-
Communicates clearly.
-
Makes clean decisions.
-
Refers generously without insecurity.
-
Invests confidently without dependency.
She does not expect the room to rescue her.
She enters the room ready to contribute.
And that energy changes everything.
Her positioning sharpens.
Her referrals deepen.
Her collaborations strengthen.
Her wealth expands.
Not because she is louder.
But because she is anchored.
The Invitation
If the world feels noisy right now, your power does not lie in amplifying the noise.
It lies in regulation.
In discernment.
In sourcing your guidance from within.
No guru required.
The creative intelligence you are seeking? It is already present.
Anchor there. And then enter the room.
Because the world does not need more women outsourcing their authority.
It needs women who are sovereign enough to lead.
