To say I dragged my heals along to my first Athena networking meeting would be a huge understatement!
Having qualified as a Colour, Style and Cosmetic Consultant 4 years previously (although had not committed any real time to developing a business) I really didn’t believe my friend who had talked me into visiting; that it would be “worth my while”. But I am so glad she did!
Although I initially found the format daunting and couldn’t quite work out why there was so much fuss over this ‘Monthly Minute’ as I had alot of experience presenting and for alot longer than a minute, I was very struck and impressed by the warmth, generosity and genuine consideration and care which members had for each other. By the time the ‘Let’s Talk Business’ section was in full flow and I had enjoyed the informative and interesting training, I was hooked! I joined at the end of the meeting and my business has gone from strength to strength since.
Surrounded by such expertise, support and often free advice I have been able to develop my USP, products; marketing strategy; social media and most of all gained so much more confidence and self-belief which has brought in more and more clients and caused my turnover to triple within 12 months. I still have a very long way to go but with the support from Athena and the wonderful members from my group I feel so positive and excited about my business and it’s future.
Two other points I have learnt from being a member of this wonderful network are: you can never think too big, having seen how some businesses have expanded and grown from a one woman band to employing many; and also the importance of support – which comes in many forms and which I feel very fortunate to have received from Athena members on a personal level as well as for my business.
