Julie Eltham: Nearly 20 Years of Heart-Led Leadership at The Athena Network

Celebrating Athena’s Longest-Serving Regional Director

At The Athena Network, we love to spotlight members from across our vibrant community.

Today, I want to shine the light on someone who helps make it all happen.

Last year, Athena celebrated its 20th anniversary. What may be less widely known is that some of our Regional Directors have been walking this journey for almost the entire duration.  That deserves more than a passing mention.  It deserves celebration.

And at the heart of that celebration stands Julie Eltham, Athena’s longest-serving Regional Director.

Nearly Two Decades of Supporting Women in Business

Julie has been leading Athena groups for almost 20 years.

From South West London to South East Sussex, she has nurtured not one but two regions, building communities of women who support, refer, collaborate and champion one another.

But longevity like this doesn’t happen by accident.  It happens because something truly aligns.

When asked what keeps her here after all these years, Julie said:

“It was made for me. Women supporting women in business is exactly where I’m meant to be. The proper, change-your-life connections I have made over the years have honestly been incredible.”

And that word ‘proper’ says everything.

These are not surface-level exchanges.  They are deep, meaningful, life-shaping relationships.

More Than Networking: A Community That Feels Like Home

Athena is often affectionately compared to Hotel California, you can check out any time, but you can never truly leave.

There is something about the culture, the warmth, and the depth of connection that captures hearts.

Julie embodies that spirit.

She values the flexibility Athena offers, allowing her to build a thriving business around her life, but what keeps her deeply rooted is the community itself.

For her, Athena has never been just a networking organisation.

It has been a place where women grow in confidence.
Where businesses flourish.
Where friendships are forged.
Where women are genuinely seen and supported.

Athena fits seamlessly and warmly into Julie’s world and she, in turn, holds space for hundreds of women to thrive in theirs.

A Leader With a Generous Heart

From Head Office’s perspective, Julie’s contribution extends far beyond her own regions.

She is a custodian of culture.

She supports new Regional Directors as they find their feet. She shares generously. She tells stories that carry the wisdom of experience. She shows up consistently, year after year, with encouragement and practical insight.

Her impact is equally powerful at local level.

Estate agent Tracey Wells from Julie’s East Sussex region recently shared on LinkedIn:

“Julie is a wonderful leader. She has been fundamental to the success of my business, and we have forged a wonderful friendship.”

And this is where Julie’s leadership truly shines.

She doesn’t simply host meetings.

She builds ecosystems.

She supports local communities.
She champions her members.
She connects women to opportunities.
She uplifts local charities.
She invests her time, energy and heart into the women around her.

Her leadership is steady, relational and deeply human.

The Scale of Her Contribution

When you pause to reflect on the number of women Julie has supported across nearly two decades, the scale becomes almost impossible to measure.

Hundreds of introductions.
Thousands of conversations.
Countless referrals.
Friendships that span years.
Businesses strengthened.
Confidence restored.
Dreams reignited.

Longevity like this creates ripple effects far beyond what can be captured in numbers.

Her warmth and passion are evident in every meeting she leads. Her unwavering commitment to helping members achieve their goals, always with practical wisdom and heartfelt encouragement, perfectly embodies how we lead at Athena.

With heart.
With integrity.
With long-term vision.

Julie’s story reminds us that meaningful business is not built in bursts of urgency.

It is built in years of presence.

And that is something truly worth celebrating.
